Instilling Knowledge Related to International Perspectives on Ethnic Minority Education, the Importance of Studying Multicultural Communication

The Political Science Study Program collaborates with the Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, in holding public lectures. This public lecture event will take place on Monday, October 9 2023, at the FISIP Building Hall, Udayana University, Sudirman, Denpasar. This public lecture was entitled "International Perspective on Ethnic Minority Education: History, Theory, Policy and Practice," inviting speakers from University College London (UCL), namely Dr. Dina Mehmedbegovic-Smith.

This public lecture was held to instill in students the importance of learning and understanding multilingualism. Not only to increase language skills, but to make us have a better work focus, achieve higher education, and to improve the quality of intellectual life in adulthood or later in old age. This is what was created by Dr. Dina, namely Healthy Linguistic Diet. This Healthy Linguistic Diet aims to initiate and facilitate changes in thinking regarding learning another language only as a primary skill or academic subject, but using or learning two languages ​​is a major element in cognitive development and future survival.

The public lecture, which lasted approximately one and a half hours, went very well with a lot of knowledge gained. The next event was a discussion session. After the discussion session ended, the public lecture event was then continued with the presentation of a certificate to Dr. Dina Mehmedbegovic-Smith, as a form of appreciation from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, as well as signing the minutes from the Coordinator of the Political Science Study Program FISIP Udayana together with the Coordinator of the Communication Science Study Program FISIP Udayana

Even though there are language differences, it doesn't mean it's an obstacle to sharing knowledge. Therefore, it is important for us to always respect and understand the cultural differences that exist within a country.
