A Real Manifestation of Our Love for the Ocean: Beach Clean Up at the 2024 Ocean Revival Festival!
Denpasar, 24 November 2024 - The beauty of the stretch of beach in Bali is increasingly becoming polluted by piles of scattered rubbish. Aware of this problem, Ocean Revival together with Communication Science Student Udayana Akt'21 took the initiative to organize a Beach Clean Up activity for a cleaner Bali.
The beauty of the beach is not only a tourist attraction, but is also home to a variety of marine life. However, the threat of plastic waste and waste polluting the ocean is increasingly worrying. Realizing the importance of keeping beaches clean, the Ocean Revival team together with Udayana Communication Science Students held a Beach Clean Up action at Kelan Badung Beach, Bali.
The activity, which took place on Saturday morning precisely starting at 07.30 WITA, involved more than 73 participants from various backgrounds such as KOLs, Influencers, related communities and of course communication science students as committee members. Initially, the activity began with a briefing by Yudi Suarbawa as the activity coordinator, then continued by Malu Dong community partners regarding the clean up mechanism that would be implemented. Participants were divided into two groups who were then directed to travel along the eastern and western coasts. Not empty-handed, a number of participants who attended formed small teams, each team being equipped with a trash bag and slippers for each participant. In the spirit of mutual cooperation, the participants combed the coastline to collect rubbish. Various types of inorganic waste were found, such as plastic drinking bottles, Styrofoam food containers, plastic snacks and so on. The clean up activity was carried out for approximately 1 hour.
"This activity is really fun, this activity helps me to see that the beach is cleaner. Previously, there was quite a lot of plastic waste, there were also cigarette butts and so on." said Sintya (21) and Yuri (21), one of the Beach Clean Up participants when interviewed on Saturday (24/11/2024).In line with that, this action also received appreciation from the relevant communities who fully supported this activity. “It's exciting, as well as educating friends regarding beach cleanliness. I just support it because the goal is to clean up. Hopefully this will not only be at the beach or campus activities but also around us. "Maintain cleanliness from upstream to downstream," said Guntur (24) as a member of the Malu Doang community. when interviewed on Saturday (24/11/2024).
Through this activity, all participants managed to collect 12 bags of rubbish. This rubbish will then be deposited at the Waste Disposal Site (TPS 3R) in the Jln. Bung Tomo belongs to the Malu Doang community. The activity coordinator, Yudi Suarbawa, explained that this action was hoped to be a sustainable step to build public awareness about the importance of environmental cleanliness, especially beaches. "The main thing is to build the habit of sorting waste from its source and starting to raise awareness that waste can become a big problem if it is not handled properly," he said when interviewed on Saturday (24/11/2024).
Collaboration between various parties who are aware and care, it cannot be denied that the beaches in Indonesia, especially Bali, will remain beautiful and sustainable. Beaches can become comfortable places for humans and marine life in the future. For this reason, contributions from various parties are highly expected for further activities in the Ocean Revival Festival. "I invite all the young generation in Bali to attend our peak event on December 7 at the Muntig Siokan Inspiration Park which will include workshops, talk shows and live music," said Yudi.
Our love for the sea does not stop here. With the right measures, beaches can become comfortable places for humans and marine life in the future. So, when will that happen if we just keep quiet? Let's move!
