Udayana University's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Welcomes Six Students from Cardiff University, England, to the Summer Course Program
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Udayana University officially opened its Summer Course program on Monday, August 4, 2025, welcoming six students from Cardiff University, England. This activity is the result of a collaboration between FISIP, Lumen Media, and Upskill—an institution focused on developing global skills and education, as well as promoting cross-cultural learning experiences.
This program marks a new milestone with the largest number of international participants since its inception. The FISIP Summer Course program coordinator, Ms. Sukma Sushanti, enthusiastically welcomed the year-over-year increase in participants. "In this program, we are committed to disseminating critical insights in the context of intercultural communication amidst the complex currents of globalization. Bali, as a laboratory of globalization, will provide a unique and profound social perspective," she said.
Laura, a representative from Upskill, echoed this sentiment. She expressed her delight at the program's growth since its inception three years ago. "Initially, only one student participated, but now it has grown to six participants from Cardiff University. The FISIP and Upskill teams are also increasingly united in organizing this activity. We hope this collaboration will continue and further introduce Indonesian culture, especially Balinese, to the international community," she said.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Udayana University (UD), Dr. I Nengah Punia, also expressed his hopes for the participating students. He encouraged them to approach the program with curiosity and humility, while also appreciating the local values they encounter in Bali. "Ask the reasons behind each cultural practice, listen with empathy, and synthesize diverse perspectives. Make this trip a meaningful, collaborative learning experience," he said.
For approximately four weeks, participants will participate in various cultural-based activities, such as learning to make gebogan and canang, visiting the Bali Museum, studying lontar script and manuscripts, exploring traditional markets while interacting directly with traders, and attending class sessions with FISIP lecturers.
This program is not only a means of academic learning, but also strengthens cross-cultural understanding and strengthens international relations through meaningful interactions.
Welcome to the international students at Udayana University's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Enjoy your studies and enjoy the cultural experience on the Island of the Gods.
